Stanotte alle ore 1:23 e' arrivato il grande Lance Mackey con i suoi straordinari 11 cani. Il suo tempo totale di viaggio per i 1600 km. circa di gara, e' di 10 giorni, 12 ore, 14 minuti. Gli altri 3 del suo team con i quali era partito da Fairbanks in Alaska il 9 febbraio, li ha lasciati per riposare, all' organizzazione ed a sua moglie in vari checkpoint della gara perche' stanchi. E' stato un arrivo trionfale ma allo stesso tempo molto umile e quieto, degno di grandi Cani ed di un campione come lui che dopo essere riuscito a combattere e vincere la sua feroce battaglia con il cancro 8 anni fa, dice che fare queste gare assieme ai suoi Cani e' per lui come " respirare aria pura " !
In attesa del suo arrivo, siamo stati tutti invitati ad una festa in onore della gara e dei cercatori d' oro del Klondike. Io, Armen e Marco siamo stati invitati sul palco a ballare un divertente ed imbarazzante " can can " con .... le racchette da neve ai piedi !!!! Dopo di noi invece si sono esibite in un travolgente " can can " un gruppo di 12 bravissime ballerine di Whitehorse nei loro abiti originali dell' epopea dei saloon. Fantastico davvero.
Ieri pomeriggio ho incontrato anche il mio amico Mario, simpaticissimo anziano di 77 anni originario della provincia di Pordenone, che si e' trasferito quassu' all' eta' di 18 anni per fare il minatore e cercatore d' oro. Lo incontrai al checkpoint di Braeburn durante la mia Yukon Quest nel 2000 e da quella volta ci rivediamo ogni volta che passo da questa parti. Ci siamo abbracciati e raccontati gli ultimi anni di vita reciproca! Oggi gireremo alcune spettacolari immagini dall' elicottero dei rimanenti teams inclusi Marco ed Armen. Domani partiro' da qui alla volta di Vancouver, Seattle, Atlanta per arrivare dopo 29 ore di volo e soste, a Milano dove faro' alcune presentazioni ufficiali in veste di testimonial per la mia Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia alla Fiera Internazionale del Turismo BIT nel loro mega stand. Saro' finalmente a casa a Fusine - Tarvisio Domenica 24 feb. nella mia adorata Famiglia ed i nostri Cani, pronto per gli allievi della nostra Scuola Internazionale Mushing / Sleddog !!
E' stato un previlegio raccontarvi con questo semplice diario e le mie foto, la nostra avventura Yukon Passage 2008 che sara' presentata in un grande documentario in due parti da un' ora ciascuna, su RAI DUE Tv, molto probabilmente nelle giornate del 9 e 16 Aprile. Per le date esatte controllate il mio sito verso la fine di Marzo. A seguire le ultime foto ...

Tonight at 1:23 the great Lance Mackey has arrived with his extraordinary 11 dogs. His total time of travel on the approximate 1000 miles ( 1600 Km ) is 10 days, 12 hours, 14 minutes. He left the other 3 of his team with which he left Fairbanks in Alaska the 9th of February, to the organization and to his wife to rest at various checkpoints of the race, because tired. It has been a triumphant arrival but at the same time also quiet and humble, as for great dogs and a champion like him who after winning his fierce battle against the cancer 8 years ago, tells that racing with his his sleddogs is like " brething fresh air " !
Waiting for his arrival, we have been invited to a party in honor of the race and the gold seekers of the Klondike. I, Armen and Marco have been invited to go on the stage and dance a funny and embarassing " can can " ... with the snow shoes at our feet !!!! After us a fantastic group of 12 girls real dancers from Whitehorse have performed an amazing real " can can " dance in their original dressings of the saloons era. Fabolous indeed.
Yesterday afternoon I met also my friend Mario, very charming elder of 77 years, originally from the provence of Pordenone, who moved up here at the age of 18 to work as a miner and gold seeker. I met him at the Braeburn checkpoint during my Yukon Quest 2000 and ever since then every time that I am in these Terriotires we meet. We hugged each other and told the our last years of life ! Today we will shoot some spectacular aerial immages of other teams included Marco and Armen, from a helicopter. Tomorrow I will leave towards Vancouver, Seattle, Atlanta to reach after a total of 29 hours of flights and layovers, Milano where I will perform some official presentations as a testimonial for my region Friuli Venezia Giulia at the International Tourism Trade Fair BIT, in their mega stand. I' ll be finally back to my Home, beloved Family and Dogs Sunday the 24th of Feb. ready for the students of our International Mushing / Sleddog School !!
It has been a privilege telling you with this simple travel diary, our Yukon Passage 2008 adventure which will be presented as a big documentary in two parts of 1 hour each, on RAI DUE Tv, most likely the 9th and 16th of April. To double check the exact dates please read my website at the end of March. Following the last photos ....
