 Chena hot Springs, Mile 101 Alaska, - 40 C
Come d' accordo con il Direttore di gara Doug Grilliot, Marco ed Armen con le loro mute di 8 cani ciascuno sono partiti puntuali da Fairbanks alle ore 14. Una giornata stupenda con temperature polari. Io e Sebastian invece con due distinte motoslitte abbiamo accompagnato i due cameraman Matteo ed Andrea. Non vi nego che guidare le motoslitte a quelle temperature NON e' stato per nulla semplice ed entrambi abbiamo rimediato delle dolorose tendiniti sul dorso delle nostre mani a causa del freddo e della tensione nella guida sul gelido fiume Chena.
Marco ed Armen invece alla guida delle due slitte e cani procedevano fluidi e costanti lungo le spettacolari anse del fiume. Dopo un pomeriggio di viaggio siamo arrivati al Two Rivers Valley Center dove c' erano gia' parecchi team parcheggiati per far riposare e nutrire adeguatamente i cani. In serata abbiamo raggiunto il checkpoint di Chena hot springs dove esiste una splendida stazione termale con relativa vasca esterna per nuotare in acque calde e guardare le aurore boreali allo stesso tempo a - 40 C. Infatti Marco ed io non abbiamo saputo resistere alla tentazione di un bagno caldo con la testa gelata per i 40 gradi sotto lo zero !
Dal momento che il tratto da qui a Mile 101 e' stato eliminato a causa della totale assenza di neve spazzata via dal vento e presenza di pericolosi tratti ghiacciati lungo la discesa di Rosebud, tutti i team devono caricare i loro cani e trasportarli con gli appositi furgoni al miglio 101 per ripartire da li' alla volta dell' infame montagna e relativa discesa di Eagle Summit.
Vi sto scrivendo da un autogrill con il computer portatile del mitico Sebastian. Siamo tutti piuttosto provati ma super felici di continuare la nosra Sfida sullo Yukon 2008. Un abbraccio dal vostro

Chena hot Springs, Mile 101 Alaska, - 40 C
As agreed with the Race Marshall Doug Grilliot, Marco and Armen with their 8 dogs team each left in time Fairbanks at 2 pm. A gorgeous day with polar temperatures. I and Sebastian instead carried with two separate snow machines the 2 cameramen Matteo and Andrea. I will not deny you that driving the snow mobiles at those temperatures it has NOT been simple at all and both of us suffered from painful tendinites on the back of our hands for the cold and tension in the driving on the frigid river Chena.
Marco and Armen with their dogs were proceeding fluidly along the river' s turns. After a whole afternoon of travel we reached the Two Rivers Valley Center where we found several teams parked to rest and feed adequately their dogs. In the evening we reached the hena hot springs resort and checkpoint where exists an open air pool of hot water in which you can watch the northern lights while taking a ot bath at - 40 C!! Infact I and Marco could not resist to take a quick hot bath !!
Since the section of trail from here to Mile 101 has been eliminated due to the lack of snow swept away by the wind and the presence of very dangerous icy parts along the Rosebud descent, all the teams must load their dogs in the trucks and transport them to the mile 101 restart towards the infamous Eagle summit ascent and descent.
